My 2021 Resolutions

I’m a bit behind with acknowledging my 2021 resolutions this year, but that’s because I think 2020 was a nice wake up call for all of us. Whilst one can argue over the usefulness of New Years Resolutions, I like to play it by ear every year. Sometimes I make them, sometimes I don’t.

Mood for 2021 ๐ŸŒŸ

This year, I took some notes on my phone ( #shenime ), and came to a couple of cheesy conclusions. My new years resolutions are never SMART; they’re more vague, big-picture level ideas. And, personally, I prefer it that way, because I don’t believe life can (or should) necessarily be planned out to a tee. Here’s what I’d like to do more of:

  1. Be more present with the ones I love. ๐Ÿ’– I have a bad habit of multitasking, and I greatly dislike that about me. Sometimes, when I sit to watch a movie with my family, I’ll grab my phone and play a game of Sudoku in parallel. This year, instead of saying that I don’t want to use my phone, I am flipping it to say that I want to be more present, in the presence of my loved ones. This includes listening more carefully, and making more time to actively reach out to someone, be it over phone, text or over a cup of coffee.
  2. Slow down. ๐Ÿž A bit in line with Item #1, for a while now, I’ve been wondering whether we are going too fast for our own good. There’s always notifications, always things we could be doing. I’m a big to-do-lister, and I get a big kick out of being efficient and always going. However, I don’t think that’s worth it, and I don’t always feel like people appreciate it as much as they claim to. I want to slow down this year, and take some time to really understand what it means to be alive. I don’t mean this in a cheesy way; but in the ‘hmm, time is going so slow, this is very boring, but also, how exciting to be alive‘ sort of way.
  3. Read more. Classics especially. ๐Ÿ“– As this blog will have you guess, I’ve been loving my quarantine-inspired reading sprees and especially reading the classics. This year, I want to do more of that. Some specific titles I want to get into include all of Jane Austen’s novels, preferably the Iliad and Odyssey, and more Charles Dickens.
  4. Soak up the sun everyday. ๐ŸŒž My mom told me to promise her, that I will always prioritize spending time in the sun. For a while, I didn’t get her, but after this year, and after lockdown, I finally really understood the value of being outdoors. It’s the ultimate sign of freedom, and it’s a mood booster like no other. This year, I want to prioritize at least a little bit of time outdoors, every day. Be that having a coffee outdoors in the sun, or just sitting in a park bench getting tanned.

As a bonus resolution, I will try to post more frequently on this blog. My current goal is to post at least once a week, every Friday at 8:00 am. If you’d like to stick around, I invite you to check back each week at that time. Or, you can also subscribe below!
